Must-Have Maternity Wear

Now that I’m just a couple of weeks away from my due date, I’m getting really excited to pack away my maternity clothes and store them away until next time! I really didn’t want to spend that much on clothing that I knew I would be wearing temporarily, so I was very selective about what maternity items I let into my closet. I think I was pretty successful in my goal, so below I have shared the maternity wear I ended up with and why I couldn’t live without them.

1. A Belly Band

This is at the top of my list because it’s such a major MUST HAVE. I cannot tell you how much I love this belly band. I have been able to wear my normal jeans until the end thanks to this super affordable maternity accessory. It keeps them up so well, the white goes with everything, and most of the time I hardly knew it was there (until I had to use the bathroom, which brings me to my next must have…).

2. Maternity Jeans

The belly band is pretty awesome, but at some point it’s a good idea to invest in some actual maternity jeans for optimal comfort (and less adjusting to go to the bathroom). Finding good maternity jeans was a struggle, but I settled on these jeans from Gap in a medium and dark wash. I have this white pair too and although I wouldn’t categorize them as a must-have, I enjoyed having them to mix up my wardrobe a little.

3. Work Pants

These navy chinos were my absolute favorite to wear to work. The fit is perfect and they are so comfortable. They also have the pixie pant in maternity (I didn’t take many pictures of myself in the work pants. This selfie was the best I could find) and they are so comfortable and cute, but I found they don’t hold up as well in the wash.

4. Tanks/Tees

They are so versatile and these ribbed Old Navy tanks are my absolute favorite because they are really flattering and fit great whether the belly is just starting to pop or it’s full-term. I wore them with sweaters/cardigans to work in the winter and by themselves with jeans or shorts in the summer. FYI my striped tanks are shown in the “belly band” picture as well as the bottom photo of “maternity jeans”. For tees, I liked this Old Navy tee.

5. A Few Tops/Tunics

I’m so bummed that the new LC Lauren Conrad Maternity line didn’t come out sooner, because the tops are amazing. I would have been wearing them months ago. I have this peach top and not only is it cute, but it’s the perfect top when you need something nicer than a fitted tank on a hot day. I also have this maroon tunic and it’s perfect to wear with leggings. If I could just choose one though, it would be the tunic because it’s more versatile. It’s so comfortable to throw on with leggings and flip flops on the weekend or to wear with work pants and pumps for the office.

6. A Special Occasion Dress

This off-the-shoulder dress, also a LC Lauren Conrad Maternity piece, is probably my favorite maternity clothing piece I own. I love the soft pink color, bodycon style, and super soft fabric. I was in need of something to wear to dressier occasions and nice date nights that was flattering for the bump and this dress is perfect. They have since come out with the same dress in black and a grey floral print and I’m tempted to swipe one of them up for future pregnancies! Is that weird?

7. Leggings

Every preggo needs a comfy pair of leggings. I loved these leggings from Target for wearing with a big cozy sweater or under a tunic (in the top photo I wore them with a Charlotte Russe mini dress that became a tunic thanks to my big belly!). They are a little thin though (i.e. must be worn with a top that fully covers the butt), so for something a little bit thicker I really like these LC Lauren Conrad Maternity Leggings (bottom photo). They can totally be worn as pants, but they are fitted and super stretchy.
